Restylane®/Perlane®

Restylane®/Perlane® injections provide instant and long-lasting wrinkle correction. It is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler which restores volume and fullness to skin. This multi-use product line corrects fine to moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds of all types, from the fine lines around the lips to deep nasolabial folds. A highly versatile filler, Restylane®/Perlane® is also used to increase fullness and enhance the lips, define the lip line, fill scars, and plump up facial areas that have lost their youthful appearance. One very common instance of "facial deflation" is the area under the eyes that becomes hollow, creating a worn-out, tired look.

Lasting up to twice as long as collagen, and in many cases even longer, treatments are typically scheduled only twice a year. Injected into the dermis in tiny amounts with a very fine needle, the result is instantaneous, producing a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to the skin. Smoothing out folds and wrinkles by adding volume can make an enormous difference in appearance and sometimes make the face look several years younger. With Restylane®/Perlane®, you can enjoy facial rejuvenation without the use of foreign elements. Because Restylane®/Perlane® is made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid and is fully and safely biocompatible, allergy testing is not required.

What will I look like after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness, and/or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears within a few days. After a lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a few days (up to a week). If the discomfort continues, please contact your physician

How long will a treatment session take?
Treatment with Restylane®/Perlane® is a very quick and easy process. As no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately. A treatment generally takes 30 minutes. Depending on the correction you wish to have performed, the length of time may differ.

Does the procedure hurt?
Most people find the injections relatively painless. A local anesthetic will be applied to the area being treated prior to your procedure. When enhancing the lips, a short-acting perioral block is given as this area is the most sensitive.

What should patients do prior to treatment?
Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E supplements one week prior to procedure. This will help minimize any bruising or bleeding at the infection site.

Are there precautions after my treatment with Restylane®?
Yes. During the first 48 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a sauna or by sunbathing) or extreme cold.

What other treatments are typically used along with Restylane®/Perlane®?
Quite frequently, our patients will also have Botox® injections to soften the dynamic wrinkles caused by movement such as frowning, squinting, or lip pursing. Utilizing both procedures simultaneously results in a smooth, relaxed, and younger appearance.
