Botox Cosmetic
Botox® Cosmetic is a protein injected into
certain areas to help reduce fine lines,
relax deep furrows in the skin and smooth
facial features. Wrinkles are created by
muscles in the face which attach directly to
the skin. When Botox® Cosmetic is injected
into these muscles, it blocks the nerve
impulse from reaching them and as a result
the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens,
the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and
the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften
and often disappear. Botox® Cosmetic
treatment does not affect normal facial
expressions. However, some normal animation
of the face remains.
Botox® Cosmetic lasts anywhere from three to
six months, and sometimes longer. Common
side effects may include bruising and/or
redness at the injection site and swelling
at the injection site lasting 24 to 48
hours.
Evidence shows that having a follow-up
treatment before the product has fully
dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.
Call your physician whenever you are ready
for a touch up or follow-up treatment.
When Botox® is injected there is an initial
minor sting for a few seconds. Once the
injection is complete, there is usually no
discomfort.

of these pertain to you.*
Post Operative Instructions:
• No strenuous activity for up to 2 hours
after injection
• Avoid lying down or massaging the treated
area for up to 4 hours after treatment.
• It may take 5 to 10 days following
treatment to notice the effects of a Botox®
Cosmetic injection.
• You may resume wearing make-up, using skin
care products or Retin-A immediately
following the injection of Botox® Cosmetic.
• You may use ice compresses following the
injection of Botox® Cosmetic.
• Serial treatments are necessary every
three to four months to maintain effect.
• You may take Tylenol as needed for any
discomfort following the injections.
